“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'” —Robin Williams

Happenings at The Mills:

The Jog-a-Thon was a ton of fun! Students dressed up, cheered each other on, and raised over $4000!

Mrs. Buckholz class won the spirit class party, Mrs. Kacalek’s class won the most average laps.

Rinley, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rory, Brody, Lyle, Aubree, Conner, Nolan, Noah, and Gene were our most laps per grade winners.

Spring quarter electives are underway and there are so many fun offerings. Students are engaged in gardening, sports, puzzles, hatching bugs, and more.  It is so fun to see the kids rehearsing for the Talent Show, their collaboration and creativity is incredible.

We celebrated our appreciation for our volunteers through treats, cards, recognition the assembly.  We couldn’t do all that we have here at The Mills without all our volunteers.  Thank you!

Upcoming at The Mills:

State testing is underway for grades 3 through 8. We also have district testing happening this month.  As always, make sure your students are well rested and eat a healthy breakfast.  Taking care of these basic needs helps us do our best, focus and show what we have learned on these measures of academics achievement.

Next week is Staff Appreciation week.  Please remember to let our wonderful staff know how much we appreciate them.  This group of professionals go above and beyond every day to make learning engaging, connect with kids, support and celebrate all of their achievements.  What an amazing Scotts Mills School family we have.  Thank you!

The students have filled up the Jag Tag Tube with all the Jag Tags they have earned this year!  As promised, they are getting  a celebration party.  We are going to be hosting the Kona Ice truck with 1 drink for each student.  We will also have music and dancing and general jolly making on the playground on Thursday May 14 during and right after lunch.  This is an early release day as well.  The students know that a surprise celebration is coming, but they don’t know what it is yet…

Character trait:

Character Trait for May is determination.  Determination is not giving up even when something is hard.  Especially when we are testing, feeling a bit squirrely with the spring weather, or otherwise needing to remind ourselves to keep at it, we see lots of determination around The Mills.

Sports:

The Middle School track meet is coming up and students will be getting ready for participation in that district wide event.  Many of our students participated in the YMCA track team as well and have enjoyed these events.

Also, the spring Walk and Roll will be May 6th, at 8:00am Please meet at the Scotts Mills Fire Station. The buses will drop off there at 8:10. Bring your bikes, scooters, skates, walking shoes, etc. We will be having the school resource officer join us and talk about bike safety as well.

From The PTCC:

Next Parent Teacher Community Club meeting is 3:15 pm on Tuesday May 12th.  Love to see you there!
